Scarlet Minivet

This slender, vivid bird flits restlessly in the rain forest canopy, making short, quick chases after insects. This species is usually seen in flocks of up to 20 or more, often associating with mixed-species hunting parties.

• NEST A cup nest made of lichens, bound with spiderwebs and ornamented with bark flakes. Usually high in the trees.

• DISTRIBUTION Indian subcontinent, S. China, and much of S.E. Asia.

• REMARK The scarlet plumage of the males is replaced by orange in the Indian subcontinent south of the Himalayas.
