Ellis species takes its name from the male's bubbling song, consisting of distinctive "ink" notes, uttered as it flics in flocks over meadows and grasslands in spring. The Bobolink is a bird of grassy areas, feeding mainly »11 the ground and taking weed seeds, grain, and insects and other invertebrates.

• NEST a cup-shaped nest constructed loosely of grasses and rootlets, placed at the foot of a tussock in dense, grassy vegetation.

• DlSTRIBl TION Breeds in S. Canada and adjoining areas of I ISA. Winters in South America as far south as Argentina.
