Ellis species takes its name from the male's bubbling song, consisting of distinctive "ink" notes, uttered as it flics in flocks over meadows and grasslands in spring. The Bobolink is a bird of grassy areas, feeding mainly »11 the ground and taking weed seeds, grain, and insects and other invertebrates.
