Tahitian Lorikeet

I his rarely seen parrot has deep blue plumage all over, except for a white triangle on the lower face and throat. The bill and feet are bright red. This simple arrangement makes the bird unusual among lorikeets, which are generally vivid birds with complex patterns. The Tahitian Lorikeet lives on remote tropical islands, where its main food is probably the nectar and pollen of the flowers of coconut palms.

• NEST A hollow in a tree or a broken-off coconut stump.

• Distributions. Pacific

Ocean: in the Society Islands (but no longer occurring in Tahiti), and introduced in the Cook Islands.

• Remark Endangered as a result of the raiding of nests by an introduced predator, the Black Rat.
