A small gamcbird of open woodland, scrub, and farmland, the California Quail is nodding crest • often seen in flocks. Although it can fly well, it usually walks or runs. It perches and roosts (rests at night) in thick cover, on low branches. The diet consists of seeds, parts of green plants, and insects, taken from the ground.
