Alpine Accentor

An inconspicuous, ground-dwelling bird, this species breeds in rocky areas at the altitude of the alpine meadows. In summer it feeds on small insects, changing its diet to fruit and seeds during winter months, when it migrates down to lower levels.

• NEST a cup nest of grass, roots, mosses, and lichens, in a rock crevice.

• DISTRIBUTION Mountainous areas of N.W. Africa, S. Kurope, and parts of Asia.
