By setting up different types of nest boxes you will be able to intluence which birds you will have living in your neighbourhood. In almost any area it is possible to chose and erect nest boxes which will attract nesting birds. In my part of Sweden pied flycatchers include new nest boxes in their selection of desired residences. They also like to feast on midges. Hies, and earwigs, so you should be less troubled by these insects. In other parts of Europe especially in urban areas members of the tit family such as blue, coal or great tits will be the easiest birds to attract to new nest boxes. Most other bird speeies arc uncertain about new nest boxes. They like to have them tested against the wind and weather for at least a year, so you can encourage them by 'weathering1 the boxes.
