Oxygen And Dinosaur Diversity

The oxygen curve shown on the page before (Figure 2.2) indicates that oxygen did not begin to significantly rise till the second half of the Jurassic Period. With this in mind it is instructive to compare a detail of the oxygen curve (from the Late Triassic through Cretaceous Period) with dinosaur diversity. For the latter we have relied on the work of Fastovsky et al. (2004) plotted against a GEOCARBSULF oxygen estimate for the time over which dinosaurs (at least the non-avian dinosaurs) existed.
